More about Davos

Davos is one of Switzerland’s best-known ski destinations, combining a substantial high-Alpine town with access to six contrasting ski areas across the wider Davos Klosters region. The variety is the key attraction. Parsenn is the classic choice for long, wide pistes and big ski days, Jakobshorn has a strong freestyle and snowboard identity, Rinerhorn offers a quieter mountain feel, Pischa is associated with freeride terrain, while Madrisa and Schatzalp add further variety. That spread makes Davos particularly attractive to intermediates, snowboarders and mixed-ability groups who want more than one mountain to explore during a week.

The town is a major part of the experience. Davos Platz and Davos Dorf provide a broad choice of accommodation, restaurants, shops and après-ski, with mountain access from different points along the valley. Skiers who prefer mileage and cruising can build days around Parsenn, while riders interested in freestyle may gravitate towards Jakobshorn. Beginners and families can find gentler terrain too, although the size and multi-mountain layout mean it pays to plan each ski day rather than expecting one compact lift network directly outside every hotel.

Davos also works well for travellers who want plenty to do away from downhill skiing. It has a strong winter-sports culture, extensive cross-country skiing and the facilities of a real town rather than a purpose-built ski village. That gives non-skiers and mixed-interest groups more options, but it also means the atmosphere is more urban and spread out than in a small traditional Alpine village.

For a first visit, think carefully about where you stay in relation to the mountain you expect to ski most often. Davos Dorf is convenient for Parsenn, while Davos Platz is well placed for Jakobshorn and the bus and rail network helps connect the wider destination. Davos is best suited to visitors who value ski-area choice, a lively resort town and enough terrain and off-slope activity to keep a week varied.

Why choose Davos?

Excellent variety across six different ski areas; particularly strong for intermediate skiers; good snowboarding and freestyle options around Jakobshorn; long cruising pistes and big ski days on Parsenn; a strong range of restaurants, shops and après-ski; and plenty of winter activities for non-skiers and mixed groups.

Things to know

The ski areas are spread out rather than forming one seamless mountain; choosing the wrong part of town can add time to the start of each ski day; the large town atmosphere is less intimate than a traditional Alpine village; beginners may find the overall scale less simple than a compact beginner-focused resort; and a week works best with some planning around which mountain to ski each day.
