La Tania is the quieter, forest-based village of Courchevel, sitting at 1,400 m between the main Courchevel and Méribel sectors of Les 3 Vallées. Official Courchevel information describes it as a car-free, family-friendly village in a forest clearing, with accommodation close to the slopes and direct ski access without needing a car.
Skiers staying in La Tania can use the 150 km Courchevel ski area as their local domain, then continue into the full 600 km Les 3 Vallées network. That gives La Tania an unusually strong location for its size: it feels much smaller and calmer than Courchevel 1850 or central Méribel, but still provides direct access to the same vast interconnected ski system. The resort is especially well suited to families and intermediates who want extensive mileage without staying in one of the larger, busier resort centres.
The local skiing has a distinctive wooded character. The Folyères piste is one of La Tania’s signature runs, descending through spruce forest back towards the village. Forested slopes can be particularly useful in poor visibility, while higher lifts from the Courchevel and Méribel sides open the way to more exposed high-alpine terrain and advanced runs elsewhere in the Three Valleys.
La Tania was developed as a modern ski village around the time of the Albertville Winter Olympics, so it does not have the centuries-old architecture of nearby traditional Savoyard settlements. Its strengths are instead compactness, a pedestrian centre, easy access to the snow front and a relaxed family atmosphere. Restaurants and bars provide enough choice for a ski holiday, but nightlife and luxury shopping are much more limited than in Courchevel 1850.
Altitude is the main practical compromise. At 1,400 m, the village is lower than many high-altitude French ski bases, so the final lower runs can be more sensitive during warm spells even though the wider Three Valleys network reaches much higher terrain.
Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains is the nearest railway station. Official Courchevel access information puts the onward journey at around 30 minutes by road, with bus and taxi connections available. Chambéry, Geneva and Lyon are the principal airport gateways.
For families, intermediates and groups who want direct Three Valleys skiing from a quieter, car-free forest village, La Tania is one of the most practical lower-cost alternatives within Courchevel.
