Les Menuires is one of the most practical bases in Les 3 Vallées, combining a high resort altitude, extensive local skiing and direct lift links into the world’s largest interconnected ski area. The resort sits at 1,850 m in the Belleville Valley. Current official figures list 160 km of pistes, 81 runs and 30 lifts in the Les Menuires local area, while more than 85% of the ski terrain lies above 1,800 m.
The local mountain is particularly strong for intermediates and families. The official piste breakdown includes green, blue, red and black runs, so there is useful progression from beginner terrain to steeper descents. Les Menuires is also known for its ski-in/ski-out design, with accommodation spread across several slopeside districts including La Croisette, Les Bruyères, Reberty and Preyerand. The purpose-built layout is less traditional than nearby Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, but it makes day-to-day skiing unusually straightforward.
Pointe de la Masse is the standout local sector. Its gondola reaches 2,804 m and climbs around 1,000 vertical metres in roughly eight minutes. From the summit, skiers have access to long pistes, freeride terrain and broad views across the Vanoise, Écrins and Mont Blanc. The sector is also generally quieter in feel than the central resort slopes.
A full Les 3 Vallées pass expands the skiing to 600 km of interconnected pistes across seven resorts. Les Menuires sits in a useful central position in the Belleville Valley, with direct ski links towards Méribel and easy onward access towards Val Thorens, making it an excellent touring base for skiers who want to cover substantial mileage.
Families are a major focus of the resort, which holds the Famille Plus label and offers beginner zones, fun areas, pedestrian activities and free local shuttle buses between resort districts and valley villages. The main compromise is architectural character: Les Menuires is a modern, purpose-built resort rather than a traditional Savoyard village.
Access is relatively straightforward for a high Tarentaise resort. Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains is the nearest railway station, 27 km away, with regular coach, taxi and transfer options for the final climb to Les Menuires.
