Telluride Ski Resort combines serious Colorado skiing with one of the most memorable mountain settings in North America. Set in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, the ski area has more than 2,000 acres of terrain, 149 trails and a 4,425-foot vertical drop. The official trail map divides the mountain into 23% beginner, 36% intermediate and 41% advanced or expert terrain, so Telluride works well for mixed-ability groups without losing the steep, high-alpine character that attracts stronger skiers.
The mountain offers much more than expert terrain. Beginners can progress beyond the base areas, intermediates have a substantial share of the pistes, and confident skiers can seek out bowls, steeper runs and hike-to terrain. Galloping Goose, the resort’s longest run at 4.6 miles, adds a very different experience to the shorter technical descents. Views across the San Juan Mountains are a major part of the appeal throughout the ski area.
Telluride also has an unusually convenient resort layout once you arrive. The historic Town of Telluride and Mountain Village are linked by a free gondola, with access to ski terrain from the intermediate San Sophia station. For flights and transfers, Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) is around 10 minutes from Telluride and Mountain Village, while Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) is about 65 miles away and is the main alternative for a wider choice of air services. That makes airport choice an important part of planning a Telluride ski trip.
