Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH) is the closest airport to Mammoth Lakes and the most local arrival point for a Mammoth Mountain ski trip. June Mountain is another useful ski option from this gateway. Mammoth Mountain places June Mountain about 20 minutes north of Mammoth Lakes, and June Mountain's own travel information directs visitors using select Southern California flights to arrive via MMH. This makes the airport relevant not only for Mammoth Mountain but also for a wider Eastern Sierra ski stay.
Winter weather can disrupt operations at mountain airports and road conditions on Highway 395 can change quickly. Visit Mammoth notes that flights affected by conditions at MMH may divert to Bishop, with onward ground transport provided for affected passengers. MMH is therefore best viewed as an exceptionally convenient local ski airport when its seasonal flights match the trip, rather than as a guaranteed year-round gateway.
