Hakodate Nanae Snowpark is the clearest ski destination from HKD. The resort’s official access information gives the drive from Hakodate Airport as about one hour. Its 3,319-metre gondola climbs towards long, scenic runs overlooking Lake Onuma and Mount Komagatake, while ski and snowboard rental is available at the resort. This makes Nanae a practical choice for travellers who want genuine Hokkaido skiing without a long transfer north across the island.
Public transport can also form part of the journey. Hakodate Airport publishes a bus journey of approximately 73 minutes to the Onuma area and around 40 to 56 minutes to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station. Hakodate Nanae Snowpark operates a winter shuttle from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, Onuma Koen and Onuma stations. These services can make a car-free trip possible, although travellers should check the current winter timetable carefully because airport buses and resort shuttles do not necessarily connect with every flight.
Greenpia Onuma provides another local winter option in the wider Onuma area, with a smaller ski hill suited to travellers looking for a quieter day on snow. For maximum flexibility between Hakodate, Onuma and the ski areas, rental cars are readily available from counters in the airport terminal, alongside taxis and buses. HKD is therefore strongest for a southern Hokkaido ski itinerary rather than as a universal gateway for the whole island. For Hakodate Nanae, Onuma and a combined city-and-ski trip, its short local journeys are a genuine advantage.
