Spokane International Airport (GEG) is one of the most useful gateways for ski trips across the Inland Northwest. From one airport, travellers can reach ski areas in eastern Washington and northern Idaho without the long urban transfers associated with larger Pacific Northwest hubs. Visit Spokane highlights five ski resorts within roughly two hours of downtown Spokane: Mt. Spokane, 49 Degrees North, Silver Mountain, Schweitzer and Lookout Pass.
Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park is the most local major option. The resort sits just 28 miles from downtown Spokane and offers more than 1,700 acres of terrain. Its proximity makes it especially useful for a short break or for travellers who want to stay in Spokane and ski by day. Winter access is by mountain road, and Mt. Spokane recommends traction tyres, chains and/or all-wheel drive when conditions require them.
49 Degrees North is another eastern Washington option. The resort identifies Spokane International as its closest commercial airport and sits just 10 miles outside Chewelah; Visit Spokane places the mountain about 59 miles north of downtown Spokane. It suits travellers looking for a traditional regional ski area without crossing into Idaho.
For northern Idaho, Silver Mountain is particularly straightforward. The resort states that it is about one hour east of Spokane International Airport on I-90, with the gondola village less than a minute from the freeway and a flat, winter-ploughed approach after the exit. Schweitzer is farther north: the resort places itself about 83 miles from Spokane and describes the airport journey at roughly two hours, with no major mountain pass to cross before the final nine-mile climb above Sandpoint.
GEG itself offers eight on-airport rental-car brands, taxis, Uber, Lyft, regional shuttle and limousine services, plus Spokane Transit Authority buses into downtown. A rental car is generally the most flexible choice for combining several ski areas, especially because the resorts lie in different directions from Spokane. Overall, GEG is strongest for multi-resort Inland Northwest trips where broad flight choice and access to both Washington and Idaho skiing matter.
