Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY), also known as Orio al Serio, is one of the most useful gateways for ski trips into Lombardy and the central Italian Alps. The airport sits only about 5 km from Bergamo and has direct access to the A4 motorway, making it well placed for journeys towards the Bergamo Alps, Val Camonica and Valtellina. Its broad flight network can also make BGY attractive when travellers are comparing fares with Milan Malpensa or Linate.
Aprica is one of the clearest ski routes from BGY. The resort’s official access information places Bergamo Orio al Serio about 120 km away, with road access via Val Camonica and Edolo. Public transport is also possible using services towards Edolo followed by a local connection to Aprica, although a rental car is usually simpler for travellers carrying ski equipment or planning to visit more than one resort.
Ponte di Legno–Tonale is another important option. Official resort information gives Bergamo Orio al Serio as the nearest major airport at roughly two hours. The 2025–26 winter transport programme included Flyski Shuttle services from Orio al Serio to Temù, Ponte di Legno and Passo del Tonale. Because these coaches are seasonal, travellers should check the current winter timetable before relying on a direct airport transfer.
Livigno is farther away but still a significant BGY ski destination. Livigno tourism lists Bergamo at about 196 km, and its 2025–26 Livigno Express timetable included a daily direct winter transfer from Orio al Serio with a journey of around 4 hours 40 minutes. This is useful for a car-free trip, but the service dates and frequency should be reconfirmed for each new ski season.
Closer to Bergamo, local areas such as Monte Pora provide shorter ski options in the Orobie mountains. The airport itself offers bus links to Bergamo railway station and Milan Centrale, as well as numerous car-rental companies. BGY is therefore strongest for Lombardy ski trips where travellers want a large choice of flights combined with realistic access to both nearby Bergamo resorts and larger Alpine destinations farther east.
